Pomo Cowork · Make time for one thing

A homework timer for the assignment due next

Maths questions, a reading response, and something due tomorrow. Pick the assignment that needs attention first. Give it 20 minutes, including a few minutes to check what you have done.

Your next focus session

Getting your timer ready…

—

20 minutes for one assignment, then a five-minute break. Change the duration in settings to fit the work. An existing session keeps its timing.

Sound and notification settings

Before the countdown: which assignment comes first?

Check what is due and what each assignment needs. Start with the nearest deadline you can work on now. If you are missing a worksheet or instructions, note the obstacle and choose a piece you can attempt. Keep that assignment open; put the others aside.

Choose an outcome: attempt questions 1–4, write the reading response, or check yesterday’s draft. “Do homework” leaves too many decisions for later. Twenty minutes is the starting setting here, not a recommended limit for every learner. Change it to fit the task and your available time.

A worksheet in your bag or a draft in a browser tab may still need another step. Before switching subjects, check the instructions, save the work, and submit it if it is ready and submission is required. Otherwise, record exactly what remains.

Try this 20-minute maths block

  1. Minutes 0–2: read the directions for questions 1–4 and find the worked example.
  2. Minutes 2–16: attempt the questions, showing your steps. If one stalls, mark the obstacle and try another.
  3. Minutes 16–20: check signs, calculations, units, and whether you answered each question. Note anything unfinished.
  4. Save the work. Submit only if the assignment is complete and checked, then take the five-minute break.

Why use this timer?

One subject stays open

Leave the history reading for its own block while you attempt the maths questions.

Checking gets time too

Reserve the last few minutes for mistakes and missing steps instead of starting one more question.

The next block has a starting point

“Question 3: unsure how to expand the brackets” is more useful than “finish maths”.

Two other assignments, two different plans

A chapter and three questions
Read the questions first. Use the block to find relevant passages, then answer with page references while the book is still open.
An essay ready for hand-in
Spend a block checking the prompt, citations, and file format. Confirm the upload before closing the assignment.

Questions about homework timer

Is 20 minutes the best homework timer length?

There is no single length that fits every assignment. Twenty minutes is an editable starting point. Try a shorter block for checking answers or a longer one for a problem that needs several steps.

What if I have not finished when the timer ends?

Note the next question or missing section, save your work, and take a break. Continue the same assignment afterward if it still has priority. The countdown ending does not mean the homework is complete.

What should I do with a question I cannot solve?

Record what you tried and where the method stopped making sense. Check the relevant example or attempt another question. Keep that note for your next session or for asking your teacher for help.

Does this timer check or submit my homework?

No. It counts the time you set. Keep answers in your notebook or usual document, check them using the instructions provided, and submit through your school’s normal process.
